AD&D - 15 Days Between Accident and Death

My fiance had Life and AD&D insurance through his employer. He was in a single vehicle accident where the police report checked the box for "fatigue/fell asleep". He was in ICU for 15 days. The day before he was to be released to rehab, he had a blood clot and died. Based on your experience, what is the likelihood that the AD&D benefit will apply/be enforceable (or whatever the language is). I have NOT seen the death certificate so I do not know how the doctor or anybody recorded it. Thank you.

Well, it would appear that his death might be consider medical, not accidental. But either way, you would have to know what the policy says about the time between the accident and the death to be considered an accidental death. 15 days may be too long regardless of the cause. Talk to his employer about getting a copy of the policy.

Is a named beneficiary entitled to a copy of the policy at this stage -- or only upon subpoena or litigation?

You should be able to get a specimen copy of the certificate of insurance from the employer, if not from the insurance company.
