My husband, 32 years old, passed away late December. Metlife required a FINAL death certificate, which I didn't have access to until the toxicology was complete so I filled out the forms and the claim was placed on hold until I provided the final DC.
I sent it to them and within days they sent me a letter stating "Your claim has been approved and you will be receiving a draft book in the mail..." Which I did. I've already drawn $ from the account.
Today - 2 weeks later - I received a letter stating that because the cause of death is an overdose, my claim is now being denied. The ONLY death certificate metlife ever saw stated that in plain english - and they approved it!
Can they just change their mind like that? I've been a stay at home mom with my 9 and 13 year old kids for 5 years... that was all I had.
