my mother took out a $50000.00 life insurance policy thru her employer, several years prior to my fathers death in 2010 my parents divorced. although my father continued paying the premiums the company refused to pay on the policy and refunded to my mother only $1000.00 of the premium paid, why they refunded it to her i do not know since she was no longer the beneficiary on the policy. We live in california are the laws different because of this,. Do i have any recourse orwas this all legal on the companys part.

Somehow your post doesn't make a lot of sense -- you don't mention who the insured was or who died. Please contact me by email with more details. If you/your mother have been abused by an insurance company, I will get to the bottom of it!

I can't understand your question. Insurance money only given to him/her who is the beneficiary of the policy. If your mom is not your father's life insurance beneficiary, then your mom has no right to take money. Consult with a lawyer as well as insurance company regarding this issue. They can clear exactly why this happened.

This is quite confusing. You say your mother took out an insurance policy through her employer, you do not say it was on your father, but I assume it was. If she had a policy on him and he died while the policy was in force, the beneficiary of the policy is entitled to the death benefit. If she was the named beneficiary, she should be entitled to make a claim for the death benefit. The divorce is irrelevant. What is confusing is you say that HE continued to pay the death benefit, so I am not sure what happened. Please contact me and we will figure it out.
