My ex-husband's grandmother listed me as a beneficiary

My ex-husband's grandmother passed away recently. She listed me as a beneficiary in her life insurance policy. I live in Texas. I received papers from the insurance company to complete to receive the funds. Am I eligible to receive the money even though we are divorced, but was still listed in her policy? My ex-husband is still living.

Believe me; if you were not eligible to receive the funds, the insurance company would not have sent you the papers.
I'm sorry to hear about your former grandmother-in-law's passing. Return the paperwork and when you receive the funds, do something small in her honor. Give a kid a scholarship, have a brick with her name on it added to a wall somewhere or donate a memorial park bench to a local convalescent hospital. That would be a great touch and show a lot of class.

Thanks Insinvestigator! I was actually thinking about making a donation to an Alzheimer research organization since she passed away from that awful illness. She had some other complications, but that was her cause of death. I definitely will do something in her honor! I appreciate your reply.

That's a great decision. My compliments to you.
