Do others have recourse from thieving executor?

My husband's sister was named as executor of her estate. She received life insurance money to be divided evenly between 7 children. She told us she sent the money out (regular post) over a week ago, but no one has received any check yet. When asked, she stated she didn't know anything about it, presumably talking about why we didn't get a check. The rest of the brothers think she may have kept the money. Since it isn't a lot of money (about 500 each), is there recourse without bringing a lawyer into it? Maybe have her arrested for theft?

Virtually impossible. And for a total of $3500? No lawyer would touch it.

The rest of the brothers think she may have kept the money.

Then why not just surround her and threaten to beat the living daylights out of her?
