Life insurance proceeds are not subject to the dictates of a will unless they are paid to the estate of the decedent. If the decedent's estate is as large as $600,000 or more, then this estate is being probated and subject to the supervision of the Probate Court. Your question is not about insurance, it is a question of probate procedure, and for that answer you need to speak with an attorney.
To try to locate unknown insurance policies, you can use the MIB Lost Policy Locator service for a fee of $75. Start here: http://www.mib.com/lost_life_insurance.html
