Can my policy on ex spouse be paid?

I live in Ohio. My ex husband and I divorced in 2002. We have 2 kids. I had a life insurance policy on him through my job since 2000. I am the beneficiary. He passed away in December 2015. The life insurance policy is not mentioned in our divorce decree although he knew about the policy. Transamerica life insurance is holding up my claim because of some Ohio law related to ex spouses. I have not received an official no but feel it is coming. I need to know if there is a way and reason to fight a negative decision. How long do they have to sit on this?

If your policy was obtained through employment, Ohio law DOES NOT APPLY . . . this is an ERISA matter. Payment of the policy benefit is determined by the language of your benefit plan's Summary Documents. Contact me immediately for assistance. Use the link below.
