Hello,
I would like to look into becoming an underwriter for an insurance company. I would prefer to work as a life underwriter, but I am open to other areas. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on getting a job as an underwriter and how to make myself more marketable.
I am currently a paramedic and EMS instructor for a large city. I have a license to insurance (life, health, disability, variable products, annuities, property, and casualty) in my state.
As far as education goes, I currently have an Associate's Degree in Applied Science, and will be finishing a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in about 22 months.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Angio333..
You may opt for a work-study program that the insurance carriers would offer so often. If you start working as a trainee underwriter, you'd have the opportunity to study losses arising out of underwriting mistakes as also access files associated with different types of claims. Roddick

Usually underwriters are in house workers. Do you live near a large insurer?

Right now I live by a few large P&C insurers. Depending on what I do with my career, we are considering moving to the Cincinnati area.
