I'm trying to find the right life insurance for myself and am looking for a site that offers free insurance quotes- maybe something like a life insurance directory. Someone referred me to weremember.com but i wanted to know of other sites too?

Websites will help you get the least expensive insurance quotes. The problem is that a quote is meaningless. You need the best rate and not the best quote. A good insurance broker will be able to get the best rates for you along with helping you to get the correct amount of coverage and the correct type of coverage.

It is rare that the company that has the best quote will give you the best rate. That being said, I think that it does make sense to look at a site to get a ballpark feel of how much coverage will cost.

I think that the easiest site to use is term4sale.com.

Going on line won't save you a penny. The sites are either run by agents or hook you up with an agent.

term4sale.com as mentioned above is a good site to get quotes, but as IE stated, a quote is meaningless until you take into consideration the medical information that will be used for underwriting. I could quote Preferred Plus (the best rate) for someone who is 5'6" and 500 pounds with 3 heart attacks, but they're not going to get that rate. A good independent agent should be able to help you.

(Of course, my '2 cents' again..) If a Rep quoted me a rate, I would asume that would BE the rate I would be paying. Not trying to be ignorant here, but,......can you explain to me, DGOLDENZ, why I wouldn't be paying the rate I was quoted? Hope my question is clear.

The quote isn't coming from the person who gets to make the decision on the rate. When I quote life insurance for somebody, I don't have access to their medical records and I haven't taken their blood and urine, etc.

If using a good agent, a quote should be a good educated guess. If just going on line, one can be looking at rates that exist, but don't exist for that person.

If I'm working with someone who absolutely trusts me, I will give them a quote that is worse than I expect them to get. If I quote $1000 and the rate comes back $900, they'll be happy. If I quote $700 and the rate comes back $800, they'll be unhappy.

If the person doesn't trust me, I'll give them a range. I'll let them know the cheapest possible, but will also let them know that it is unlikely that they will get that rate.

The quick answer to your question is that the quote comes before the policy has been underwritten, so it's nothing more than a guess.

I guess you CAN"T see the person's Medical history, etc. ......that's true. I know some of the quotes, that I've seen on TV, they give for "Male, Non-Smoker", etc. I suppose it would be higher if you WERE a smoker. An 'estimation'..I guess you would say?

No. When you see a quote on T.V., it's almost always the best rate that exists. In other words, it's a rate that most people can't get. It would be much higher for a smoker. It would be higher for someone a little heavy, or has a family history, or takes medication, etc. etc.

This is why I'm constantly saying that you need someone to help get you the best rate and not the best quote.

There are several good sites offering life insurance quotes that are quick and easy to get.

Some sites offering quotes for life insurance include Efinancial, Termfinder, AccuQuote, Insureme, Insweb and Insure.com

Remember to answer all questions truthfully to get the most accurate quotes available.

Also, it would be a good idea to contact a licensed local independent life insurance agent that has access to a network of life insurers to find the most competitive quotes from highly-rated life insurers.

Also, make sure you consider the financial strength rating of the insurers yuo consider before choosing a life insurance company.
