I need help with insurance please!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am doing a project for school on insurance and marketing. I was wondering if I could have some agents help me out and just answer any of the 4 questions that you have an answer to or applies to you. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1-Why did you choose insurance sales as a career?

2-What skills are necessary to be successful?

3-What did you do to build a client base?

4-What advice could/would you give someone entering a career in financial services?

Thanks Ben

Hi Ben,

Hope you get some useful information here...I'll give you what I can.

1. I got into the business because I believe in the product and you can make a lot of money!

2. You must have a great work ethic, be organized, not afraid to talk to people and it helps if you genuinely like people!

3. Building a client base is the toughest part, especially at the beginning of your career. Lots of different ways, but I prefer the referral route!

4. Advice? As much industry education you can get.

I choose insurance sales as a career because it was a stable field to enter because everyone has to purchase insurance at some point in there life. It is can be very lucrative. I especially educating others.

2-What skills are necessary to be successful?
Inteacher is right in saying that "YOu can not be afraid to talk to people. It is very important that you have great work ethic, organization, and the desire to help others.

3-What did you do to build a client base?
Many agents build there client base thru telemarketing at first or purchasing a book of business. Referrals are the best and you obtain these by talking to businesses, family, friends, social and networking groups.

4-What advice could/would you give someone entering a career in financial services?
I agree with Insteacher....get as much education as you can and talk to as many people in the industry as you can. Always try to learn something new whether its every week or month.

I've been a financial plennar for almost 20 years and I have 2 issues in what would be a fantastic explanation of life insurance. 1) Pure life insurance should not be used as an investment because those rates of returns are usually poor 2) Whole life is so expensive that I never recommend it over Term. There is such a thing as renewable term that doesn't require a medical exam.
