I've heard that weight and obesity are key factors that decide term life insurance premiums. Is it true?

See, it's time that weight gets scrutinized now. Health is a major concern for all insurers when it comes to issuing life insurance policies.
Weight and obesity are 2 factors that have a negative effect on your health. This is the reason why your premiums rise when you put on weight.

Perhaps this statement is a bit misleading.

A person's height-and-weight profile are among the first factors that underwriters review. To the extent that you are outside the standard guidelines, your acceptance can be more difficult or nearly impossible. If rated substandard, you will pay a higher premium or have some limitations imposed on your coverage, or both.

However, once a policy is issued, your future weight does not have any effect on the premium you pay. Premiums do not automatically rise and fall with one's weight, as the quoted statement above seems to indicate.

I'd agree with Max on the fact that you don't see an over night increase in premiums as you put on weight. On the other hand, it's perhaps easier to lessen your premiums once you reduce your weight. You may ask for a new medical exam as soon as you lose weight. You might see your rates coming down soon.

Yes absolutely height weight profile of an applicant is important because if a person is over weight then it is more prone to some serious diseases like diabetes and heart attack. And hence more premium could be charged.

Losing weight can be very beneficial for all policy holders. There's a healthy weight threshold and once you fit into that, you may ask your carrier to adjust your rates. You may even achieve some incentives for losing your weight.

Weight issues not only cause a lot of hassles for you. They could also add more stress for your body and mind. So, you see it's not just about saving money if you lose weight.

It's one good thing to work out everyday and lose your weight. Maintain it for a few good months and then call your carrier for a check. I'm sure, it's gonna lower your rates!

hi,
yes your height, weight, age profile is impotent to take any policy .if your weight is too much then more chance for diabetes & heart attack,so more companies extra charge per premium this condition.
