My Dad passed away in 2003, I think he had some life insurance policies but how do I find out if I didnt live with him if he left me anything?

If your stepmom is not the evil kind of stepmother we use to see in fairytales, then maybe it's ok to ask her. she's the one who has access to your dad's stuff... and maybe she has indeed found some documents.
