I had a house fire I was told that day it was an Electrical fire and the House was turned back over to me that afternoon. I got the fire report it stated it was an electrial fire, no human involvment, no arson, etc. 4 days after the fire I got a call that the personal property and fire investigator from the insurance co. were at my house, I had a clean up Co. there so they let them in. The following day I got a call that the police were there, I was confused. My clean up crew told me that the Fire investigator from the insurance co went back in the house the following day.. 5 days after the fire took stuff from the house went outside and called the police to turn over stuff. The police are telling me that they never went in my house even though my neighbor said they were there for a few hours. I called the city law department to get a police report because I wanted to know what the insurance co took and handed over to them, I was told by the city law department that there was no police report because there were no findings and that it seems just like it has been blow out of proportion. What I want to know is can an insurance co. do this? Go in your house take whatever they want call the police and just hand whatever they want over I dont know the laws so I dont know what is legel and what isnt. Thanks

I've not heard of the police investigating a fire. Usually it's the Fire Marshal/Fire Dept that investigates fires and arson. So I'm not sure why the police would be involved.
If I understand this correctly, some people told you that your insurance company gave items to the police. The police deny this and stated that there was not even a report. Again, I don't know why the police would be out to your home. Also, anyone taking anything from your home is guilty of theft. So I _really_ doubt that the insurance or the police took anything from your home (again if the police walked away with your property, they would be guilty of theft and I'm betting they know that).
Personally, I'd suspect that the "info" you were told was incorrect. Why not simply call the insurance company and ask them about this? I'm betting it never happened.
If the insurance company was thinking about denying coverage they would send you notification of this first.

Good advice to contact the insurance company. It is very common for an insurance investigator to take an item that they feel may have been the cause of the fire. This item will be sent away for testing to se if it was the cause of the fire. They will normally be glad to tell you what item they took. And...since they've likely paid you for the damaged item...it now belongs to them. If this is the case...that item could be cause for them to recoup their loss from the manufacturer of the faulty item.

Exactly.
All this sounds very complicated. In my opinion, you must talk to your insurance company regarding this clearly. If required take some of the witnesses along with you who saw the police in your house.
