I'm going to apply for home insurance soon after I buy a country house. I've heard that contents coverage is an important element of home insurance. Does it cover my PC and my laptop? Will it also cover my glasses and other things? I'm really concerned about my personal belongings.

Contents coverage is an integral part of a Home insurance. Electronic household appliances are also covered under this. If you have a great deal of expensive household items, then you should asses the value of them and consult an insurance agent about the adequate amount of contents coverage suitable for you.

Contents are included with homeowner insurance, but some types of personal property are excluded or limited. The glasses you wear on your face are not covered, but the your drinking glasses are covered. Computer coverage is often limited, but you can increase coverage if you need it.
When you shop, have each agent review the limitations, exclusions, and perils (theft, fire, etc.) covered, and adjust your coverage to your needs.

Yes, they are.Posted: Fri Aug 19, 2011 06:16 am Post Subject:
Ugh... I hate being wrong. Thanks for the correction, tcope. I checked my own State Farm condo policy, and there is no exclusion for glasses.
However, your glasses are not covered for being broken or lost, unless you have open peril coverage for your contents -- which is not too common, and the value of your glasses are over the deductible. Vision insurance is your best option if you are concerned with damage to your glasses. Even if you have expensive glasses, and they are stolen, that is not the type of claim you want to place on your homeowners insurance.
I seem to remember an exclusion for things like hearing aids & glasses at one of the companies at which I used to work, but I may be mistaken.
Homeowners insurance policies have a lot of similarities, but there can be differences, and everyone should refer to the "exclusions," and "property not covered" sections of their homeowners insurance policy, to confirm what is covered.
