We had water damaged and a beautiful silk rug from China has been totaled and appraised at $2000. It was unique and we bought it on a trip to China. It would take years, if ever, to replace it. How does replacement insurance handle this type of claim?

How much is it worth... that is what is paid. If the value of the item was $2000 then that is what it would cost to replace it.
How difficult it is to replace is not addressed by the insurance policy.
