how long does it generally take an insurance company to payout a liability claim under a homeowners policy for bodily injury? i was in a stove fire last year and suffered 3rd degree burns all over my body. The plastic surgeon I was sent to by the insurance company said that there was nothing he could do to repair the damage. I stove caught on fire at one of my relatives homes. the tried to put it out incorrectly and the fire attacked me in the process. The homeowner was sedated at the time from an outpatient surgical procedure and should not had been cooking in the 1st place. I found out all of this after the fact. She has also admitted fault to her insurance company. My lawyer is still yet to respond to me regarding the claim she submitted on my behalf, nor is she returning my call.
Please advise me with any info you may have in this situation

This is why it's taking so long. Your attorney has probably not even asked the insurance company for anything.How long does the insurance company have to respond to pay? Well... until a judge says they have to pay. But they certainly won't offer anything until your attorney makes a demand. Attorneys typically don't make a demand until _well_ after their clients stop treatment. They are working other cases right now. I've typically seen attorneys not send in demands until a year after the person stops treating. Why should they... they are getting paid on other cases. An attorney is not going to make a demand until they know without a doubt that the person is not going to have any more medical bills as it's those bills that increase the amount they get paid.
Want to have your attorney speak to you when you call? Simply leave a message that you are going to drop him/her unless they call you back. They attorney will then call you back right away.
You really want to pay this attorney 33% of your settlement money if they can't even call you back? Not to harp on attorneys but I think this is a prime example of what most injury attorneys are like... their client's are simply money bags waiting to be cashed in. They don't really put that in their ads though.
Also, I doubt very much that the home owners insurance had you go to any doctor. Most likely it was your attorney.
Just as a side note... what has really pissed me off lately as an adjuster is that I can call and call and call, send letter after letter after letter to an attorney for information on their client's status and they never bother to call me back either. But once they send in that demand a year later, they they expect me to call then within a few days. Sad thing... I need to do that. They are until no obligation at all but the insurance company has _tons_ of requirements to do things timely.
I see this all the time... I'm dealing with someone direct and it takes weeks for me to get medical bills and notes, to investigate the claim. So the person gets mad that it's taking weeks or a couple of month and they get an attorney. Then I don't hear anything for a year or two. Happens all of the time.

It's such a mean thing on the attorney's part. but that's wat they are like. You need to strictly tell your attorney to handle your case faster or better still as tcope says try to handle it directly by dropping your attorney. You might try to contact your relatives insurer through them and try to settle your claim.
