i recently had some water damage to the bathroom and kitchen. I will be issued a check from the insurance company and was wondering if i could do some of the work myself. I am pretty sure i am able to do the work under their guidelines but i was wondering if they would still pay me for labor like they would a contractor. Also if i can get materials cheaper than what they estimated it for would i have to pay back the difference or would i keep the difference? I know once the work is done i will have to submit receipts and pictures to verify it and then i will be cut another check for the depreciated value. Any input would be appreciated.

The pay for the loss, period. They don't care who does the work. However, if there is a mort. company listed on the check they may required a licenses contractor perform the work.
