siding material prob

My house was struck by lightening. Some damage to siding outside. Old aluminum siding. Insurance said get estimates for new siding. Found one person to give me estimate on new aluminum because no one wants to do aluminum anymore, everyone in my area does vinyl now.

MY home insurance issued check, minus depreciation. Will receive that upon completion of work.
My aluminum installer doesn't really want to do aluminum but vinyl. He says insurance doesn't really care what I replace with, so long as I replace my siding. A good quality vinyl will be close in price.
My letter from insurance company said they were paying for replacement of siding. No exact material specified.
I wont pocket any money. It will all be spent on residing the house. I'm just wondering if, when I submit proof of work done, they will take issue with vinyl being used.
I would go ahead with aluminum if I could find someone to do it. But I can't.

Am I free to use any material , or I'm only allowed to replace the siding with the same material? Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think you just need to contact your insurer before you go ahead repairing or replacing the damaged siding with a different material.

Just give them the real reason for choosing to go for a different material. Take your insurers permission and also let them know that you will be providing all documents needed by them to prove that the insurance money was spend on repairing your siding and not for any other purpose.

Depending on the kind of provider you have they may or may not agree, you need to find out about it yourself.

Hope they will agree as you are unable to get any other person to fix your damaged house. Good luck!
