The gas grill in my kitchen exploded and took out almost half of the kitchen and dealt severe damage to the roof. I wouldn't say it was my fault since the thing just blew up 5 minutes after I had turned it on. Will my homeowners policy cover the damage as well as the grill?

Probably. Question is... why did it explode.

The infrared burner at the back of the grill got a little dislodged and was pointing at the the propane tank. That's possibly how the thing went sideways.

If it was a mechanical failure or flaw which led to the accident, then your insurance company would honor the claim. Fire damage should be covered under your HO policy.

Without seeing your actual policy there are no guarantees but I can tell you that I would shocked if they tried to deny this claim for any reason. Not only do homeowners insurance policies cover fire but they also cover explosion...you apparently had both! Your problem may come in the valuation of the damages as fire losses can be quite complex and every adjuster will see things a bit differently.
Good luck!
