Can I file an insurance claim to replace the Hardi Shake roof on my house. Hardi Shake was supposed to be a 50 year roof, but apparently it is not and the company no longer makes it. Some of the shingles were recently damaged by wind gusts and now the roofing company that installed it 20 years ago says there are no replacement shingles available and the rest of the roof may fall apart if walked on. What to do?

You can see what the adjuster says.

If the product is defective (i.e. it doesn’t perform as expected) or if it was improperly installed, then you might be able to seek coverage from your homeowner’s policy. Talk to your adjuster, if you aren’t satisfied with their position consult with an attorney. Most initial attorney consultations are free. Other options include pursuing a warranty claim with the manufacturer, seller or installer of the roof. Wind speed is an important factor to consider, sites like weather underground will allow you to access your areas wind speed history to compare it to the ratings for the roofing shingles.
