I probably already know the answer to this, unfortunately, but wanted to ask.
Yesterday my husband was doing some routine maintenance on our house and planned to replace the trim around the south facing window of our house. When he popped off the old trim, he found water damage around the bottom of the window. The boards are so soft you can poke a finger through them. We had no idea anything was wrong, just trying to keep our house looking nice.
We have homeowners insurance with State Farm... FP-7955.OR.
Any advice? We want to get this fixed as soon as possible before the rainy season begins.
Thank you,
Alissa

This will likely be an excluded loss. Unless you can prove that the damage is recent and the secondary result of a covered "proximate" (first) cause -- say, termites that chewed an opening which allowed storm water to enter and saturate the wood, your insurance will not pay for this damage.
Your words are important: "my husband was doing routine maintenance". At least you found it before things became much worse.
