Hail Damage

We recently had a storm that poured in a lot of water in a small period of time. I just bought my house about a month ago. During this storm my skylight leaked in my bathroom, so I called my insurance company to take a look. The insurance man said the reason the skylight leaked was because the silicone sealant was deteriorating, but said while he was on my roof he noticed some hail damage so he was going to write it up that I need a new roof. However, nowhere else in the house leaks water and my roof is not even 2 years old. I had a roofer come look at the roof and he said it does not need to be replaced I just need to repair the skylight. I received a check in the mail yesterday from insurance company, I was just wondering what would happen if I only fixed the skylight? Will my roof still be insured? I heard that if you don't repair your repairs then the insurance company won't insure that(roof) anymore. Is this true?

Whatever "damage" was documented by the adjuster will be on file with the insurance company. When the next major hail storm passes overhead, and does more damage to the roof, if the photos show the same unrepaired damage in the new photos, the insurance company is going to say, "We already paid you to fix that, so we aren't paying for it again."

But, you can use the money any way you choose to at the present time.
