Insurance claim, doing some of the work yourself.

Hello all,

I live in Louisiana, I have damage to home from hurricane Isaac. I have sent mortgage lender contractor information and all information they asked for. Constractor is charging alot of money to paint my home, so I did not add that to the estimate I send the lender, I was wondering, if I decided to paint my home myself, could I receive a check from the claim?

If you had included this sort of coverage in your policy, then the insurer is bound to oblige you with the compensation.

Why does the home need to be repainted? If only for cosmetic reasons, it will not be covered. If due to covered storm damage, you should add it to your claim.

I really found this forum very informative specially for mortgage information for contractors and insurance purposes. I live in Austria now a days and they have a little bit different ways to handle the these laws.
