What if an insurance carrier goes after somebody?

I had a small crack in the lower portion of my door and my girlfriend’s younger cousin stuck his finger underneath and ripped off a good amount of the door material and now it looks terrible. I asked the cousin’s parents to pay for the damages but they refused. I convey the thing to my insurance carrier and they asked me to report this to the police. They said that they are going to take care of all the charges and also said that if they pay for the damages they have to go after the said cousin or his parents. I’m just curious what will happen if I file the report and and they go after them. Will they sue the cousin or his parents?

They might.

This loss is over your deductible?

Perhaps, they are not going to put charges against a little kid. Rather, they’ll send the bills to his parents. If they refuse it, they will send it for collections.

If the loss does not support the time and money to pursue an individual for damages, your insurance company will not do so. The question to ask your friend is "do they have homeowners or renters insurance". If they do, their liability portion of their policy may pay for your damages.
