I have heard that this is optional. Even I know some people who have and also haven’t opted to get it. I’m closing on a home pretty soon and just wanted to know if I should pay the required and get it. It costs around $950Should I get owners title insurance?

Title insurance will insure you as a buyer and your mortgage lender against any kind of loss that may result from title defects, regardless of the reasons and whether or not they were known at the time of sale or refinance.

It’s not at all optional and here you got no choice. If it’s a mortgage, you must purchase it. If it isn’t a mortgage, you need not.
