When can I cancel my homeowners insurance?

I’m least satisfied with my insurance company. Our monthly premiums are paid directly from our mortgage company and I just never come to know when the insurance carrier raises the premiums until the policy is paid in full. How many days I have to decide to leave one and join another?

Never mind! You can cancel anytime, but you need to have a new policy in place first. Provide the info on the new policy to your lender first.

Usually, there's no "free look period" on homeowners policies, but in some states, you can cancel without any penalty during the first 30 days. Your agent should be able to tell you more about the procedures.

Isn't it funny how those pesky insurance companies always seem to raise their rates at the beginning of a new policy year?
