I live here is Nome, Alaska and we all know very well that it’s an earthquake prone zone. Currently I do not have any earthquake coverage. Is it mandatory to get one from the carrier with whom I also have my homeowners?

Earthquake insurance is not mandatory. If your HO insurer offers the coverage, it is usually more convenient to obtain the coverage that way if for no other reason than you only have to make claims with one company. Unlike California, Alaska does not have its own earthquake risk pool.

No it is not mandatory to get the earthquake coverage with the same insurer. But it may be easier to buy it from the same insurance agency.

It is usually inconvenient to purchase EQ coverage from another carrier. In the case of CA, most insurers participate with the CA Earthquake Authority so there is almost no advantage to obtaining coverage through a different carrier.
