We have moved in our Connecticut house a week before and the owner has asked us to get a renters insurance. I don’t know whether or not it is legally binding to get one while renting a house. Even if I get a coverage, what would it save us from and how much would it cost? Thank you in advance.

Does renters insurance cover car theft? Some buggers broke into my car last night while I forgot and kept it outside the garage. They stole my camera, jacket and ipod. Auto Insurance won't cover it I know, but would my renters insurance cover it?
Your contents policy is supposed to cover your camera and iPod but again, it’d be subject to deductible. So what deductible you have? If you have a $500 deductible, there is high possibility that you’d be required to pay all out of pocket.

just wondering if I should get a renters policy from them too!
You don't provide sufficient information for anyone to answer this question, and no one here can tell you what the cost of any insurance policy will be from a particular company because each situation is different. We don't even know which state you are in, and costs vary significantly from one state to another.Additionally, if you are a homeowner, not a tenant, a renter's policy is of absolutely no use.
If you do need a renter's policy, before you purchase one from State Farm, it would be worth the time to get premium quotations from several different insurance companies. The easiest way to do this is to discuss your needs in person with a local independent agent.

Not all renters fire or contents fire are the same. You can buy some that simply cover contents and personal belongings for as little as $6.24 month for $10000 coverage.
