Hello,

Regarding a homeowners policy, the personal property is separate from the structure portion. Our insurance company, Hartford, has agreed to replace water damaged wood floors, however they say that the approximate cost of $5000 to move everything out, store, and move it all back is not associated with the structure portion of the policy but is associated with the personal property portion. Our claim was paid for damaged personal property but capped at our max coverage. Stating the moving is associated with the personal property means that Hartford is denying to cover that cost.

Moving the furniture so that the wood floors can be replaces should be a part of the structure claim, do you not agree? Moving a couch is part of the job of replacing the floors.

Jeff

There is not a one way fits all in this situation. I can tell you that it is customary, especially for insurance companies to include all content manipulation under the dwelling damages. It sounds to me like they are trying to do creative adjusting.
