Now whats important for me to know is, whether our current auto policy would cover us while on the trip ? regards, Philip Duckworth

Hi, rest assured... Mexico has different laws, rules and regularions than in your place!
While in your trip to mexico always remember that... Mexico doesn't necessitate auto insurance but at the sametime you ought to be extra careful so that you avoid accidents. Its considered to be against the Law...you could be manhandled for a criminal offense and treated for a civil matter if you commit an accident. Hope you'd take good control of your car while you're on the trip!

hi! Make sure that you don't get entangled into any such mishap, it doesn't really matter if it involves your near and dear ones or an outsider. Incase you end up injuring someone; you may landup in custody and get detained till any decision is being made as to who the real offender is.
Also it is mandatory under such circumstances that you be able to prove that the Mexican Govt. recognizes the insurance that you possess as also the fact that you're financially capable enough to reimburse if the judgement goes against you.
take care, Fatman

My friend, its my request that you please don't take any endorsement under the US insurance policy for covering you while on your trip to any southern states. Be ware these endorsements won't ever be recognized by the Mexican authorities as proper insurance coverages.
So its better that you don't opt for these limited coverages, rather its worthy of you to seek any insurance through a Mexican co. I think I have been pretty honest in forwarding my views to you. Its always better to take precautions rather then seeking a cure while you're into it. What do you think ? Sasha T.

hey,
lemme warn you about one possibility after reading through all these comments.
Suppose now you have a Mexican auto policy and while in your trip you fall prey to some accident. Now, its important for you to know that unless you or your insurer make amends for the damages they won't let you slip out of the country. Did you get that ! If you ever hurt anyone during this period immediately ask your insurance co. to gather the contact information of all the parties involved. This might reduce the time for which you remain detained. Got it!

Hi, in your case obtaining a good insurance quote won't be a big problem.
I'd rather suggest you consult with your local insurance agent and you'll surely come across some good old authorized U.S. agents who are out to sell Mexican auto coverages. Apart from that you may also consider the local telephone directory in order to search a few good names of agents. I feel it would be a good idea.
stay well, Rhonda
