Insurance fraud?

We have recently had some severe storm damage, roof damaged, windows broken out, gutters shot, siding punched through, trees down, fence crushed... you get the picture. An adjuster has come to take a look and we should have some answers in a couple of weeks, but in the mean time we have contracting companies knocking on our door looking for our business, which is great.

My question is, if my insurance gives us a check and we get the work done for less then can we keep the rest of the money? Or is this fraud? Or is it only fraud if we get the work done for less and then we say we need the depreciation check too?

The reason I ask is one of the companies who really wants our business works directly with the insurance company and whatever amount insurance says the job is worth they do it for. I see some benefit here, like not having to stress or haggle with insurance... but I also wonder if we could find someone to do it for less and save us money. But I do not want to do anything illegal!

Sad to hear this. Why don't you contact any public adjuster who will help you out from this issue if the insurance company you have registered with is not responding to your problems?... Well After reading of this, I suddenly got to remember about an incident happened at my uncle's house in Glendale. He lives at the downside of the hill area and thus facing water damage in the rainy season. Even after having a water damage insurance with the company they took help from the public adjuster los angeles to get the maximum coverage cost over the damage.
