I have a friend who will be visiting me from Europe for a couple months. She has a international license currently but NC state does not recognize this so I am proceeding to get her a NC state license. Is this really necessary? Also If I give her permision to drive my car and she gets into an accident, am I covered under my insurance policy?

My friend,
I do believe that ones insurer covers him for everything offered in the policy & for all circumstances...but at the same time it would cover his near-n-dear ones who have been mentioned or enlisted with his policy!
This might be a bit difficult in this case.

Incase, your car hits n causes a damage to someone..its for sure your carrier would try to safeguard you...but if it causes any physical harm to others then think of the responsibility...it has to be shared by you too!
Its better you advice your friend to get the license in her own name...its jus about spending a few bucks more & passing a driving-test!

Hey why don't you go with the NY state DMV guidelines!
I am sure you can drive for a cumulative 30 hours out of which 10 hours within a moderate traffic...this is required in order to obtain the certificate of driving from the DMV office or the DMV internet office. Now all you need to do is to take care of the following important points.
# While you go for the driving test make sure that your vehicle is in good condition, registered & insured.
# You need to be accompanied by a driver who is at least 21 & holds the license to assist you at driving your car.
# Your vehicle's seat-belts & doors have to be in proper condition
# Make sure that the side-belts are also properly maintained for the examiner to check it.
Hope you'd keep all these factors in mind before you go for that!
