My current auto insurance carrier is Geico in California. I had an at-
fault accident in last Nov and the claim that I filed to Geico is
still open because in the accident there were totally three cars
involved and one of the other two persons never spoke to my insurance
company and claimed anything. My coverage is enough in case that
person comes back.
Due to this accident, my premium is dramatically increased. I got
several much lower quotes from other auto insurance companies for my
next renewal in mid Feb.
My question is: if I change to another auto insurance company while
the claim is still open, will Geico still take care of the claim,
i.e., pay the person if he comes back?
Thanks very much for any information.

Hi,
If you were not a payment defaulter till last Nov, then I'd see no reason why Geico would not take care. I'd believe they ought to!
Thanks,

hey there..
Due to this accident, my premium is dramatically increased.
Please explain it to me whether it is this one accident that had this dramatic turn of premiums...or has it been more than once ? BellMathew

My friend, have you ever thought of the consequences if the parties who're offering you a package of cool automobile insurance premiums would think of offer you a cold shoulder when they would have their turn in the future! How about the promptness that Geico offers! Did this hike seem illogical?
Think twice before you take a drastic step ahead,

Hi BellMathew,
yes, it is this accident that makes the premium increase from $600/6mo to $1300/6mo. So far Geico has paid around $4,000 for
two cars' repair including mine and another party (the third party hasn't talked to Geico yet). I was told by Geico it is the number of accidents, not how much they pay out, that determines my new premium. They explained that they removed the California Good Driver discount so my new premium goes much higher. When I requested some quotes from other insurance companies, I did tell them I had an accident within the last 6 months.
Hi Man-frm-d-westland, would you mind rephrasing in plain language? I don't quite follow. Sorry about that and thanks!

Yes, as long as you had coverage on the date of loss (which you clearly did) all claims associated with that loss will be covered even if you now leave that company.....the claim is still open, will Geico still take care of the claim,
i.e., pay the person if he comes back?
Thanks very much for any information.
You're welcome... Just make sure you are comparing 'apples to apples' meaning the EXACT same coverages/limits and deductibles...Add your comment
