Dear all...what factors do I consider while I look for travel insurance? Are there any exceptions or out-of-pocket expenses associated with it?

You'd certainly need to think about the needs before you go shopping for it. You may go through your health insurance policy and see what things it would cover. If you come across any clause that would cover overseas medical treatment, then you could at least spare that headache instantly. Am I right! BarbieL

Hi dear...if you have medical emergency, then I'm sure they would cover for the expenses to bring you home to treat you as well as the loss of your baggage if any. Now, everything would depend on whether you'd get a short term policy (e.g. 15 days-365 days) covering your illnesses or a long-term one that would cover you at least for an year or more. Roddick

There are quite a few I guess..but I'd be able to share a couple of them with you-
Whether emergency treatments and illnesses would be covered
Whether emergency transportation would be supported
Whether trip delays would be covered
Whether lower deductible policies or co-pays would be there
Thanks, Crossbreed

My friend, you may look forward to some out-of-pockets for sure-
* whenever you come across a comparative plan, don't forget to check the rates
* You may choose lower rate plans if you can afford to pay for deductibles worth $1000-$2500.
* Don't forget that events like maternity and childbirth won't be covered.
If you may take care of such thing, you may term yourself as 'safer' than the others. Mermaid-attitude

Hi..
If you may take care of such thing, you may term yourself as 'safer' than the others.
I feel you'd also need to take care of other things as..
1) Whether your policy covers regular vaccinations and precautionary treatments.
2) Whether your policy would cover you for the pre-existing health conditions. (I'm sure there are some that do..look for them!)
3) In case you are being injured while you're drunk or if you're being driven by someone who's under the influence of drugs or drunk, then you may not be covered for such injuries. Check out on that too!
4) Also, I'd suggest you to inquire whether your policy would cover you for circumstances wherein you're abroad for a longer stretch of time while you'd need to make short visits to the U.S.
