I have bought a life insurance policy on myself and on my wife to cover if one of us suddenly pass and also to cover mortgage. But we have no short term disability insurance through our jobs. Whereas there is always the possibility to be hurt or disabled than to die. What to do in this situation?

Insurance is by and large a personal decision and you need to judge on the issues like how much savings do you need, what are the federal, state, and local rules available etc. You just talk three to four insurance agents from different companies for the kind of insurance you needed. As the premium rate differs a lot between companies for the same coverage level.

Your viewpoint is correct about the possibility of disability. But you should check the claims, benefits, waiting periods and the cost of insurance written in the policy.
