The funny things we do.

I'd like this section to be something like America's Funniest Home Videos. The accounts will be things we didn't really have any control over and hopefully didn't cause anyone a great deal of pain.

Fireyone: I have no idea what my reflexes would do in self defense mode from an airbag. I'm afraid it'd be a crapshoot. I just hope I never have to find out. I almost always drive defensively and often take more precaution than 'normal people' usually do. There are so many idiots out on the road who have neither the common sense nor respect for a fellow-driver God gave a gerbil. These are the ones we have to look out for.

Yes, I started flying airplanes during the summer of my senior year in high school. I brought one down really hard (upside down, actually) back in 1983 and the effects are ongoing.

 DUDE  You crashed a plane? and got back in one? :o I personally HATE flying, don't know what I'll do if I have to fly again, since I quit drinking about four or more years ago...bought the only way I'd get on one is tanked.....glad you made it thru....what happened? (yes I'm going off topic....fire me  )

Ins.Inv., I have that defensive driver built into me too. Guess for some it comes naturally. My biggest pet peeve is last minute or NO turn signal. I kind of experience road rage when that happens...Wow pretty cool flying your own plane huh? I always wanted to get on a plane...never had to for any reasons so far. Paragliding would be pretty cool though.

Lori, We won't send you to your room for being off topic...at least not THIS time...lol

InsTeacher,
I played in a big golf tournament hosted by the Elks Lodge in Roseburg last summer. I really like the "laid back" approach to life so many people in that area seem to have. Everyone I met was friendly and people actually seem to care about each other.

I have seven time-shares in Oregon and love to head up there when I have free time. The trip to Myrtle Creek is only a little more than a 2-hour flight so it is well within reach.

Thanks for the message,
Mark

Hello Lori,
Yes, I still love to fly. In fact, I have logged more than 800 hours of PIC (Pilot In Command) time in different kinds of aircraft since then and around 600 hours in a back seat. To me, flying is a tool that saves LOTS of travel time and when time is money........

I was home from my second phase of flight school and my common sense was eclipsed by my ego. I made a couple really bad decisions and tried to do things neither I nor the airplane were capable of. It cost me the life of one of my best friends and was a mistake I lived to regret.

How many people live through really bad car crashes? When they get out of the hospital, how do they get home? I guess that's why I still fly. You know; statistically speaking, flying is much safer than driving because, in CA at least, any dumb-butt can get a driver's license. Heck, you don't even need to be a citizen. Getting a pilot's license takes a bit of work and you absolutely must speak english. This automatically throws out a huge percentage of our population. Combine this with the reading, writing, understanding the weather, following directions, and thinking clearly at all times requirements and another huge portion of our population is also tossed. Oh, and using a cell phone while you're flying is not a big deal at all.

PLEASE lets not even bring up a cell phone while driving and flying..my temp went up a 1000 degrees...thats how I lost use of my dominant arm...I actually think a person should pull off the road when using the phone.

Here's a good one:

Back in the mid-90s, I was subcontracted out to the CA AG's office and was working hard to catch-up on hundreds of old life insurance fraud cases.

On day, an investigator and I were chatting about a new case involving a member of the CA Highway Patrol. It seems this poor guy was being investigated for allegedly keeping an apartment in a nearby town so that when female motorists propositioned him in order to get out of a ticket, he'd have somewhere to take them. He apparently didn't want his wife to find out.

Because I had real trouble believing this one, I did some snooping around on my own and found out that cops are "hit on" all the time. It is not at all uncommon for women (and men) to try to get out of tickets by offering sexual favors.

The little things that make you say, "Huh."
