When helping clients evaluate their financial situation and plans, I use this as part of my presentation. I explain how much there is to do, and how the adequate amount of life insurance (including final expenses, lost income, reduced social security, etc) can help protect the surviving loved ones. Maybe this will give someone a few points to use:
1. Contact Doctor
2. Contact Coroner
3. Contact Funeral Director
4. Contact Cemetery
5. Contact Clergy
6. Notify Relatives
7. Notify Friends
8. Select Pallbearers
9. Notify Insurance Companies
10. Notify Newspapers / Write Obituary
11. Select Music
12. Select Cemetery Plot
13. Determine Type of Funeral Service
14. Pick a Casket
15. Choose Vault
16. Select Clothing
17. Decide on Flowers
18. Make Transportation Arrangements
19. Select Announcements / Thank You Cards
20. Determine Time and Place
21. Set Up Visitation
22. Provide Info for Death Certificate
23. Provide Addresses and Phone Numbers for Notifications
24. Make Arrangements for Visitors
25. Help with Travel Arrangements
26. Respond to Phone Calls
27. Answer Cards and Letters
28. Greet Friends and Relatives
29. Prepare and Sign Necessary Papers
30. Pay for Funeral Expenses
31. Plan / Provide Meals and Food
32. Telephone / Postage Expenses
33. Choose Headstone
Many people fail to realize how time consuming, painful, and EXPENSIVE the whole process is. I never like for my clients to dwell on what is coming, but I do want to make sure that I help them prepare for the best possible result.
Hopefully this will give someone a few things to use...can anyone think of anything else to add to the list?

Thank you, CHRIS. I guess people don't realize how much you have to do, until you ACTUALLY see it in writing. I'm very close to my family. My parents are in their 70's now. I know they will pass away someday.......I just couldn't imagine how to 'deal' with it all.
