She is a college student and will restart college in Jan 2010, but took this semester off to get married and moved 6 states away. I want them to keep Texas as their permanent residence since he could be deployed and she would come back to live with us. Plus he may not stay assigned to VA forever, they'll move around, I'm sure.

The car is now in her name. I live in TX and they are stationed in Norfolk, VA. She is still listed on my insurance policy and it's paid through April 2010. I wanted to know what changes have to be made. Of course the easiest and least expensive is best. Also if her husband drives the car too, does he need to be on the policy? I've read several things saying if the car is insured, then anyone with a valid DL is covered.

Have your son in law talk to his commanding officer, I've handled many claims with military families, typcially they maintain their state residence. NOT the state they are temporarily in.
How old is your son in law and what is his driving record like? Most companys rates drop when either gender is married, men (if a decent record) typcially see a substantial drop at age 25. This could (of course vary). Does son in law have a vehicle of his own?

Son-in-law is 20, daughter's 19. Both have clean records. He sold his truck upon entering the Navy. Her car is their only vehicle. Car is registered in tx in her name.

Well, this could be tricky for them...If you have an agent, (rather than online)...call your agent and ask...I'm betting that son in law will need to be added. Another issue Cherri, is the state coverage and limit requirements are likely different from VA to TX. While her TX policy must conform to any state she drives the vehicle in, it's just might be cheaper to have it insured in VA..
I believe TX requires 25/50/25-and VA requires, 25/50/20 VA also requires UM limits in the same amounts, I don't think TX does...At any rate, you need to see which states premiums are lower. (I'm betting on VA) also most (if not all) carriers offer a discount for married couples as well as military...best bet...talk with your agent..
