Hello All,

Today getting car insurance does not mean that is it necessary to go to an insurance agent to find full coverage for your Vehicle. While this was the only way in the past to have a car covered; it is now possible to buy car insurance online instantly. Getting an insurance policy online means there is no need to take time off from work to get to the agent before they close, and the policy is located either on the computer or at their website to review when questioning coverage.

There are many sites that let buy car insurance online such as the ones you see listed on many site, and it is important to read the policies carefully. One of the great things about this is reading the policies from the comfort of home. That takes the pressure out of rushing to read, like you'll have to do at the local agent's office, where the amount of coverage could be missed, such as the medical or property damage amounts. This is important in case there is an accident to have the right amount of coverage and to buy car insurance online it is possible to see each item that is important for the right amount of coverage.

The internet is how many people pay bills, order items for their homes, personal needs, cars and pets, so it makes sense to buy a policy online and in many cases it's like other bills that can be paid online. That takes the worry out of running to the insurance agent or having to worry about mailing a payment on time.

Thanks!

While I will agree it can be convenient to buy insurance online, I wouldn't recommend it at all - to anyone.

Reading and understanding an insurance policy is not an easy thing to do. Understanding exactly what coverage you need to adequately protect your assets is not an easy thing to do either.

Please understand, what you are reading at your insurance agent's office and online is the application for insurance coverage - not the policy itself. The policy is where you will learn what is covered and what isn't, what conditions must be met before, during, and after a loss, and so forth. The policy is provided after you purchase the coverage.

That is what a licensed insurance agent is for - to evaluate your situation, understand your needs, recommend options, and explain to you what is covered. And if the agent doesn't do their job correctly, you have someone to go after in court. Who are you going to sue if you make a mistake and don't buy the coverage you need online? No one's fault but your own.

Many states allow insurance companies to customize the coverages they provide, so even being fluent with your current policy, doesn't mean you understand the coverages for another company. The laws are constantly changing and it's an insurance agent's job to keep abreast of those changes.

I recommend checking out some of the posts on this site. You will find many times the experts' won't answer a coverage question until they know what state is being discussed. And often times, even within a state, coverage can differ from company to company. Don't risk your assets and everything you have worked so hard for just because you want to save a few minutes. Often times you can find agents that are willing to work around your schedule or can work via a fax/email, or mail.

And along those lines, I always recommend dealing with an independent agent. That is an agent that represents multiple companies, not just one. Independent agents work for you, not the insurance company. They are able to shop several different companies' rates and coverages to get you the best policy for the best price.

What is Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage? What limits should I have? What is Stacking and does my state allow it? What is P.I.P./Med Pay and what are the different options in my state? How do these options affect my claim? Do I need to list my daughter on my policy while she is away at school in another state and does not drive my cars? How should I cover the vehicle in my name but that my son, who lives someplace else, has all of the time? I'm in Florida, is Bodily Injury coverage required? I'm in Michigan, what kind of coverage do I need in this insurance screwed up state?

Please direct me to the online site that explains all of these things.
