recall on air bags on vehicle I owned

I was involved in a head on collision a week ago. The other driver was at fault.
My air bags deployed and I also have injuries to my rib cage and sternum from the impact.
I recently found on the internet that the manufacturer of my vehicle just had a recall on the air bags on the vehicle I owned. "stating the defect could cause the air bag not to inflate properly causing damage"
I called the manufacturer and after several questions they issued me a claim number. A day passed by and then a voce mail was left on my machine stating they were referring my claim to their legal department. On this past friday I was contacted by the third party inspector stating he would be inspecting the air bags to my vehicle and that he would forward all information to the manufacturer and they would follow up with me. Today he called again and asked my husband (I was not at home) if I was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident my husband replied yes.
1. Does this sound like he may have come across a defect in the air bag (s) or maybe the one on the passenger side.
2.
Does anyone know if this is something I need to obtain a lawyer for

It is possible that he may have found something. An investigation into a vehicle's restraint system takes time. You can hire a lawyer, but for what reason? You don't know the outcome of the investigation yet.

I was told I should have had someone there with him when my vehicle was being inspected.
Does anyone know the how the suit value action is determined will they offer me money? I have seen multipe law suits against manuafacturers for injuries due to defect equipment. In my case I have a bruised sternum and ribs

You could consult with an attorney, however don't jump to conclusions. If I were in your shoes I would wait to see what the investigation turns up. You could consult an indepent investigator to look into the findings if your are not satisfied with the outcome of the investigation. SRS (Safety Research & Strategies, Inc.) is a great independent firm you may want to look into for information.

I think, she should wait a bit..it might take some time but the decision could be in her favor. Also, she should consult with an attorney only when all other ways are exhausted..the attorney would help to settle with his fees included within the claim amount.

I am concerned in the timing because the other driver's insurance adjuster has already looked at the vehicle. The body shop owner stated to me it looked like it may be totalled. A dogde third party vehicle inspector inspected the vehicle on Friday and stated he will be sending his report to Dodge.
I would like to do what Trench has said before a decision is made on my vehicle and while it is at the body shop.
Does anyone know who I should contact I live in Kentucky and SRS is located in Massachusetts. Thanks
