I am thinking about taking a job w/ Allstate and I was told that I would have to take classroom and online courses. Can anyone tell me about the courses? Do you have to pass a test to work for Allstate?

Most insurers require that you take an aptitude skills test. Testing your reasoning and comprehension ability; math, science; word and definition association. Pretty basic stuff. There is a lot of classroom training and personal training. I am going to assume that because you are posting in auto insurance that you are going into auto claims. My personal opinion is that auto insurance trainees are extremely under trained and over worked and paid for that matter (no offense). There seems to be this cookie cutter mentality to just push them through training, most the time these trainees have very little or no automotive experiance. They expect them to be able to handle everything that is thrown at them in a six month sometimes less time frame. Being a quick learner does not apply. I started in the collision repair business working in shops and it took me years to fully grasp what I needed to know, and I am still learning. Good luck.

This is done to make sure that you posses all the basic qualities, which are needed to develop you into an insurance professional.

As an adjuster you'd need to judge a claim from different angles before you could arrive at a settlement.

On the other hand, as an underwriter you'd need to identify the risks associated with an applicant.

And even sometimes that is called into question. It's pathetically obvious (sometimes) that most of these trainees are told to memorize word scripts and talking points to try and weasel their way out of a situation at the first sign of trouble or to feed a vehicle owner a line bs in order to curb or resassure that everything will be just fine.

I guess, such scripts and talking points don't always reassure that everything would be fine. If the vehicle owner also owns a rational mind, he might just carry on asking open-ended questions.
That's why it's always important to be a good listener and try to get to the bottom of the actual problem. An intelligent trainee would surely read through every minute details expressed or implied by the other person.

I believe that they are all intelligent people. However, if you are indoctinated with what to say and how to say it, it's not an individual's own intelligence thats being called into question here.

I am trying to find out what type of training Allstate provides for their sales agents. I'm thinking about taking a producer position in a local office
