Just venting

I'm licensed for Illinois and indiana casualty with an insurance background of close to ten years selling auto policies. Plus I have four years experience in a call center for Allstate Insurance company. And it's almost 2010 and i'm making $13.50 an hr and no one is willing to pay up? No matter where I look. I know the economy is bad but I can't make more than $13.50 since 2006. I keep on hearing excuses such as well your not licensed for property, life, and health. If I were then I wouldn't be on the internet seeking a job. I would own and run an office. Due to Chapter 7 bankruptcy I had to put off my own agency dream for a couple of years. So I have been applying and asking for a minimum of $14.00 to start plus 1% comm. I don't even make it to the interview. How upsetting is it and frustrating as an Insurance individual. I am the sole breadwinner so I have to make ends meet. I don't even ask for benefits and these agencies don't even let me in the door. They rather risk their business with others whom would take 9-12hrly and train them. Well I'm trainable too but why doesn't my experience count for something? I even speak spanish. I have also tried getting in the door with Claims but I have Sales experience so to them it's like I'm not experienced enough for their spectrum. Okay so who handles those customers face to face when they just had an accident. I did, I do, I will!.
I enter the data -submit the claim hear back from the departments -pass sensitive info. I don't just sell it's not that easy is it? I've also heard we can't afford you? Are you serious $14.00 an hr $15.00 an hour is so much for a Company? Even call centers nowadays want to pay about what I am already making but give me more work and later shifts. No thanks to that I think I'll just keep on searching in hopes my resume falls on the right set of eyes.

I feel your frustration. I have been there. I guess you just need more patience. By the way, how many companies have you approached?
