We had the same dryer GLGQ642AS. It had the exact same fire inside the drum. It started a fire while I was at work and caused 150,000 damage to my home. We lived in a rental for six months and are now back in my new rebuilt home. The repair guy said about six months earlier that it had started a fire before but the dryer is suppose to maintain inside the drum. There is a small crack between the dryer and the drum and over time it builds up and the lint over the motor ignites. Very scary thing, we could of been sleeping. I was paid for everything because we had good insurance but I lost 4 weeks of work the stress on the family. I am currently seeking legal counsel to sue the company to take this off the market and compensate me for my loss time from work and stress-Thank You

Maybe this is just me, but NEVER do laundry when sleeping or not at home. My wife used to do this (leaving home), now I get to do laundry. :D

You should get compensated for your work if you could show them how it affected your work. I guess it could be a bit tough for you to share the brand name following your attorney's legal advice, but please do so if you could prove your point in the court of law.

That's a good point Das..I don't leave the house with laundry going anymore either. But I have went to bed with the washer and dryer running.

I've seen too many flooded and burned down houses because someone wasn't home with the washer and/or dryer going. I just won't do it. Sleeping probably isn't the worst thing in the world, but the things I've seen as an adjuster make me a little paranoid.

Certainly sleeping is not the worst thing, but it could lead to loss of lives if you have the washer/dryer going. Have you had any other strange experience as an adjuster?

this would be a manufacturers fault with the equipment so ultimately liability would fall on them - I hope your insurer was able to recover from them!

Scary things applicances. Especially heat generating ones. Just to add to the horror stories to stop you all sleeping at night, I'll recount one of my own:

My wife (then girlfriend) we renting a place about 5-6 years ago. We'd just moved in, our second night in the house. about 2.00 am I heard a "pop" sound from the hall outside our bedroom - didn't think too much of it at the time - wasn't loud and it was 2 am!

Anyway, I got up and had a look. Noticed the light I'd left on in the hall was a lot dimmer and seemed to be flickering. Got a chair and took a closer look only to find that that the fitting had come loose so i could see into the ceiling. The light wasn't flickering - there were small flames in our roof!

Needless to say that woke me up pretty fast! Called the fire dept - bundled my Gf out of the house in our PJ's and in minutes we had 2 fire engines outside the house and people pulling apart our cieling with axes and fire hoses!

Great way to meet the neighbours.

come to think of it that was about the time i realised the importance of contents insurance.

Moral of the story: - always investigate a strange pop in the middle of the night, flickering lights are NOT your friend, and waer nice PJ's - you never know when you might need to meet your neighbours in them.

No question this should (most likely) be a product liability claim...Course those are always a long drawn out affair, but hopefully the subro claim will be paid..

Spooky story Hedrik..yikes! fire in the ceiling? geeze ... sounds to me like an angel whispered in your ear, and woke you up!

Not really strange.... just sad. People don't understand that although they may be going through a claim that might be a once in a lifetime thing, adjusters go through these once in a lifetime things almost every day. Total house fires where people or pets die and "treasures" lost for ever. Accidents where people are killed or disfigured for life.
