our 18 year old just became licensed. We live in Wa state. Does he have to be named in order to be insured?

In 18 years you and your spouse couldn't decide on a name? Yeah that might be a problem when they ask him for it.

You have two options-
Either you get a him a separate policy (if he's working) and ask him to be responsible for his premiums. That way he'd grow up to be a responsible driver.
On the other hand you may include him in your own policy since he's sharing the same household. This way, you may ask him to share his portion of the premiums in order to have the keys to your car. But remember, in case you're gonna provide for his premiums, then show him the worth of your increased cost due to his inclusion. Explain the importance of being a responsible driver and the need know the state guidelines thoroughly. Roddick
