All life insurance policies offer a tax-free death benefit assuming IRS guidelines have been met, which is almost always a non-issue.
Costs are going to depend on what type of insurance you want and a number of different things. Due to your age, it's going to be potentially expensive but certainly not unattainable.

Costs are likley to be pretty high for most insurers are your age will count against you I'm affraid.
that said there are some very competitive life insurance products available at the moment from different insurers. If you're willing to do a little looking around online you can probably find some decent options. Get a couple of online quotes - it's pretty simple - and test the water.
