Thats not a good thing, but not bad at the same time. It has been my experiance that when a carrier begins asking for this, they are looking for reasons to deny your claim. However, you must cooperate as what they are doing is pretty standard. They are investigating any financial motives for you to have your own car stolen so that you could collect the payment. It wouldn't be a bad idea to consult and attorney. Did they just ask for this info right off the bat?

I wouldn't say it's because they are "looking for a reason to deny" the claim. There are apparently a few 'red flags' that jumped out immediately, this is NOT that uncommon. If these flags jump out of a claim they HAVE to investigate it.

All carriers with total thefts or fires, immediately run a credit report as well as an iso, if you've been late on payments, had other total theft or fire losses, you've 'just' added comp coverage to your vehicle when you didn't have it prior, you 'just' lowered your comp deductible from 2k to 100 bucks...any of these things could result in your carrier bouncing your claim to their SIU dept.

You are bound by your contract with them to fully cooperate in any and all investigations including giving up your phone/bank records...possibly even an exam under oath.

Now, on your end, 'what' could the red flags have been?

Only after the investigation is not turning up would would normally be discovered from a genuine theft claim. But like you said, there must be some "red flags" that they are turning up that would lead them to requesting these records. Usually by this time, most of the carriers I have worked with resort to this when they believe there is evidence of fraud to deny the claim. There has to be that clear indication.

We do not have any late payments on the vehicle. I just want to know why the adjuster comes at me with all these questions without telling me she was going to verbally "rape" me. I felt that many of her questions were leading making it seem like she was trying to get me to say something incriminating. I was so flustered that i don't even now what was really disscussed. What would be the point of needing my phone records anyway? I will be giving her everything she wants as I have nothing to hide. I just cant belive the way I have been treated. I just had my car stolen and I already feel sick about it.
Thanks for the adivce,
STRESSED.....

So you are saying that from the get go they ask you to provide the records? As far as running a credit check at first which is pretty standard, requesting about finacial records and such is moving pretty fast if you recently reported the claim in my opinion and experiance. Was there a delay in reporting the vehicle stolen? Hours, days between reporting it stolen and contacting your insurer? If you are not feeling comfortable about the situation, contact the adjusters supervisor.

We discovered it stolen yesterday in the am. We reported it right after we saw that it was stolen. My brother who is a tow truck driver was the last to see it parked in the evening. I think that is one of the reasons she doubts my credibility, and the fact that I was really upset on the phone and she said she was confused by what I was doing in the day. Like i said she was leading me in questions and twisting my words so I was really flustered. The phone records were requested near the end of our conversation. I will fully cooperate with the company and will get her the records she wants.
Thank you for your time....

EXACTLY..

My brother who is a tow truck driver was the last to see it parked in the evening

ROT-ROW...flag number 1--

lisa, The adjuster has to ascertain, a lot of details in a total vehicle theft. Including your actions for about 24-48 hours prior to the theft. There is nothing to get flustered about, if you don't understand a question, have her repeat it, or rephrase it. If you have nothing to hide this will all work out fine.

As to other red flags..

are you behind on ANY payments?
have you or other members of your household EVER had a total theft or burn?
how long have you had this policy?
have you made ANY changes to this policy?
