Is my 15.5 y.o. son w/ Student Permit covered by my policy?

We bumped into a car yesterday ($800 damage) when it suddenly stopped to avoid another motorist. My son just got his Student's permit and I was at the passenger side coaching him. My concern is, I have NOT updated my Insurance info yet that my son is already learning how to drive.

Am I better off not filing for a claim Or should I file? If I do file, do you know the legal ramifications regarding my son's obtaining a real driver's license?

Your advice is highly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Anxious parent

I am not a professional, but I remember many years ago when I was 15, and had gotten my learners permit, that they told my mother she would have to add me on as soon as I got them, because if I got into an accident it would not cover it. We were with Alfa at that time. Maybe different insurances have different policies. You could call the same company maybe just in a different area other than your own and jsut ask, dont give your name ot anything to see, if it will cover it.
