Purchasing a new vehicle out of state

I live in Kentucky and travelled to Missouri to purchase a 2010 vehicle. The dealership financed the sales tax for Kentucky into my loan leaving title and registration to me. They stated they havent done too many out of state purchases but in cases they mine they hire an outside firm (Jupiter) to do the title and that the fees Jupiter charges the dealership will be around $50 to $60.
I took ownership of the vehicle the first week in November. The third week of November I received a phone call from the registry of motor vehicles here in Kentucky stating my paperwork was ready.
I went to the registry here in KEntucky and the lady checked the calculation of the sales tax and found it to be correct so she processed the check from Jupiter for the sales tax of my vehicle. Now the second check from Jupiter was blank so she charged the title and registration to it and gave me my plates and said I was all set.
Today I received a phone call from the dealership in Missouri stating I now owe over $300 to the dealership since they paid Jupiter for their services.???
At best I feel I owe the cost of my tags and nothing else any input ??? Thanks

How'd you like my 'show me state'?

Today I received a phone call from the dealership in Missouri stating I now owe over $300 to the dealership since they paid Jupiter for their services.???

What? I thought that was in your loan?

At best I feel I owe the cost of my tags and nothing else any input ???

I'd check all my paper work, to see if there is any mention of this anywhere, then I'd remind them they quoted me 50-60 bucks, then I'd probably tell them to buzz off...I've never heard of hiring a third party firm for this type of thing to begin with...

Will they have a right to come after me for the money. I read on the internet something about the difference in sales tax from the state I purchased it from and the state I live in. Either way they never mentioned anything like this and since I already have the vehicle I want to give them the cost of my tags $40 something and tell them to take a hike. Has anyone else purchased a vehicle from another state that they reside in??

As said Lori, thanks for visiting!

This is not your problem. They need to call the bank.

It's not common, but a lot of out of towners will do it.

Sure..I'm (literally) about a rock's throw from KS. It's my understanding (here anyway) that you pay the sales tax in the state that you license the vehicle in...that is where the tax is due...

If I may ask...what kind of car did you drive to our beautiful state to pick up?

I have a previous post regarding my Dodge 2009 Journey SXT that was totalled in a car accident in October. Well I loved my car so much that when the other driver's insurance company paid it off I turned around and financed the 2010 version same color but loaded with everything but a sun roof. Missouri was the closest I could find that offered all of the extras I wanted so I drove there. (Ellisville, MO) 3 hours.

I had no idea where Ellisville was ( ) had to map quest it...well it's closer to you than me (4hrs. 34 minutes from me).. looks like it's just east of our captial..

Also had to look up that car..too, thought I knew which one it was, ...what no Challenger? (dag-gum it that's a good lookin' car!) come on "cmoore" sport it up a little... (just kiddin')

I'm glad you got the car you wanted...do let us know if we can assist you with anything else, or if you have the time how this turns out.

and good luck!

I wish back in the day I would have bought a challenger.
Now 45 yr old female, 6'2 and 5 kids naw dont think so.
I have black one with tinted windows chromed out and nice rims sporty enough for me. My 19 yr old says he needs it more than I do lol. Thank you for your help.
I do not plan on paying the dealership an additional $300 plus dollars so that they can remove it from "their books" lol. :P
