I am considering suing an insurance company for damages due to Wilma. The question is what is an appropiate percentage on a total no cost to me compensation for the attorney?

You really need to find an attorney who would take such a case on a contingency bases. Though, most are going to take a percentage of your settlement and you may not get more then just your actual loss. I've heard from prior posters that the ones they have used charge 20% of the settlement. Again, you may not find any willing to take your case. It does not cost anything to make some calls.

As T said, most attorneys (if not all) offer a free inital consult...I however, have never seen a contingency client/atty agreement that was less than 33.3% plus expenses and it bumps to 45-50% if it goes to trial.

What is your issue exactly? is it a bad faith case?
