Hello, I own a townhouse in NH. It sits on a slab of cement. It has what is like frost heaves under the carpet. When I spoke with the management company about repairing the slab, I was told that they would do that, but I would have to replace the carpet? Is this true? I would think that since the problem is coming from the slab and that would cause the carpet to need replacing. Why would I have to use my own interior insurance if the problem is cause by something from the exterior?

What is wrong with the carpet? I have seen this exact repair done without replacing carpet.

If this is like a condo deal, then yes you would most likely be responsible for the carpet. I would agree with Trench, you should be able to have the carpet pulled. You may have to replace the pad, but the carpet should be able to be re-installed.

Your management company would provide coverage only for the external damage caused in the event of any disaster. It mainly covers the foundational work. But you need your own renter's insurance plan to provide coverage for your personal belongings.

If you are refereing to the carpet, no. Removal of the carpet along with personal belongings will be covered.

The removal of the carpet should be. But to move contents...not always. Really depends on the policy.

Moving the contents has always been covered in the claims I have handled with similar work being done. It's kind of difficult to exclude removal of wares when removal of the carpet is included. The only time I have seen removal of contents being excluded when pulling up carpet was due to workmanship errors.
